Whether I'm walking down Main Street, kayaking down the Saluda River or having a conversation over coffee with a city resident, I am constantly reminded that Columbia is truly a special place.
Blessed with a vibrant and diverse community, Columbia is home to multiple colleges and universities, marquee destinations like Riverbanks Zoo and the South's largest children's museum, EdVenture, and our nation's premier Army training facility at Ft. Jackson.
We are a city of creativity, a city of excitement and a city of promise. I firmly believe we have the potential to become the most talented, educated and entrepreneurial city in America because, more than anything else, Columbia has heart.
You see, while we benefit from all the hallmarks of a modern, 21st century metropolis, in many ways, we're still an old fashioned Southern town.
We still pull over for funerals. Gentlemen still hold doors open for ladies. We still serve sweet tea in our restaurants and we still remember that the two most important words in the English language are "Thank You."
We are Columbia and, as Mayor, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our fair city.
