The Columbia City Council met for a work session, Wednesday, May 2, 2001, in the Council Conference Room.  Mayor Robert D. Coble called the meeting to order at 9:05 a.m.  Council members present were:  The Honorable E. W. Cromartie, The Honorable Francenia B. Heizer, The Honorable Jim Papadea, The Honorable Anne M. Sinclair, and The Honorable Hamilton Osborne, Jr., and The Honorable Sam Davis.   Also attending were Ms. Leona K. Plaugh, City Manager and Ms. Peggy S. Breeland, City Clerk.
 

1. Presentation

A. Burroughs and Chapin - 9:30 a.m.

2. ITEMS FOR APPROVAL:

A. Sponsorship

1. Request from the South Carolina Department of Commerce for $1,500 in sponsorship to
the International Broadband and Fiber Optic Conference to be held in Columbia June 1-
4, 2001. (City Council Contingency).

Council held this item over, no action was taken.

2. Request from YWCA of the Midlands to sponsor a table in the amount of $1000 at the
TWIN Award Banquet to be held during the last week of May.  (City Council
Contingency).

Council held this item over, no action was taken.

3. Request from the World Affairs Council to sponsor a table for $1,500-$5,000 for the
Global Vision Award Black-Tie Dinner to be held on November 14, 2001. (City Council
Contingency).

Council held this item over, no action was taken.

4. Roast - Senator John Courason - Palmetto Project - $1,000-$2,000.

Council held this item over, no action was taken.

B. Congaree Riverwalk/Granby Park - Maintenance and Security Plan

Council held this item over to the Work Session Agenda for May 9, 2001.

C. Five Points Parking Study

Council held this item over, no action was taken.

 
3. Contract and Legal Matters

Upon motion by Mr. Cromartie, seconded by Mayor Coble, Council voted to go into executive session at 11:25 a.m. to receive a legal briefing regarding the Housing Authority Fee In Lieu of Taxes Adjustment, Proposed Housing Ordinance and a request for a Certificate of Convenience and Necessity.

4. Discussion - Turn Lanes on Manning and Stratford Streets

Council held this item over, no action was taken.

The meeting adjourned at 11:50 a.m.
